The Delhi High Court has received a public interest litigation (PIL) suit against the Paresh Rawal film "The Taj Story."

On October 31, the film is scheduled to be released.

However, since the publication of its poster featuring a figure of Lord Shiva emerging from the Taj Mahal's dome, it has been enmeshed in controversy. The speculative notion that the monument was formerly a Hindu temple was rekindled by the poster.

According to counsel Shakeel Abbas's PIL, the movie makes false and controversial claims about the Taj Mahal's history, expressing an opinion that is at odds with accepted historical knowledge and academic agreement.

Therefore, in order to preserve national harmony, the petition has asked the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to reconsider the certificate given to the movie or make the necessary cuts. Additionally, the plea has insisted that the film include a disclaimer acknowledging that it is addressing a contentious narrative.

The petition claims that the movie's speculative claims could undermine trust in historical research, incite social instability, and harm the Taj Mahal's standing as a UNESCO World Heritage Site internationally.

It is suggested that the film has extremely contentious moments that could exacerbate tensions among communities and disrupt social harmony. The request claims that the movie has occasionally emphasized divisive remarks made by BJP officials and other Hindutva organizations, which could lead to communal conflict across the country.
