On February 6, the trial court refused Kumar's request for bail.
In response to a bail request submitted by two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar, one of the individuals charged with Dhankar's murder, the Delhi High Court on Friday sent notice to the Delhi Police and the family of the late wrestler Sagar Dhankar.
The matter will be heard on May 4 of next year, according to Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani.
On February 6, 2026, the trial judge refused Kumar bail in relation to the 2021 murder of Dhankar, a young wrestler.
Following an alleged incident at Chhatrasal Stadium in May 2021, where Dhankar was fatally injured in a late-night altercation purportedly related to a property dispute, Kumar was taken into custody. Kumar has been charged with murder and criminal conspiracy by the police, who have labeled him as the primary suspect.
The Delhi High Court had previously granted bail to Kumar. But the Supreme Court then revoked the respite, raising questions about the necessity to guarantee a fair trial and the possible impact on witnesses.
Kumar has claimed in his new application that because all public witnesses have been questioned, his bail request can be reexamined. Both the police and the attorney for Dhankar's family are contesting the claim.
