In a rape and assault case, Kolkata influencer Shamik Adhikary was placed under police custody.

The Court noted that the investigation was still in its early stages and that the accusations were grave.
On February 6, a Kolkata court remanded social media influencer Shamik Adhikary, also known online as "Nonsane," to police prison as investigators continue to look into claims of assault, rape, and unlawful detention.
After receiving a complaint from a 22-year-old lady at Behala Police Station, Adhikary was taken into custody on Thursday night from the Dum Dum neighborhood of Kolkata.
According to the lawsuit, following an argument, he had imprisoned her at his house, threatened her, and touched her improperly.
Before giving the police more time to question him while he was in detention, the Alipore court heard arguments from the defense and the police.
The judge remanded Adhikary to police detention until February 16 after seeing the gravity of the accusations and noting that the inquiry was still in its early stages.
Police also informed the court that the woman's medical checkup was still pending and that her statement before a magistrate had not yet been recorded.
The complaint was first filed by the police under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNH), including criminal intimidation, wrongful imprisonment, physical assault, and outrage of a woman's dignity.
However, a rape charge was eventually added following additional interrogation and a review of preliminary results.
Advocates Moyukh Mukherjee, Gopal Halder, Subrata Sardar, Barun Kanti Som, Prasenjit Halder, and Chandril Chattopadhyay represented the complainant.
