Other journalists, like Paranjoy Guha Thakurta, contest the Delhi court's gag order on Adani-related stories.

The media were recently directed by a civil court to stop posting unsubstantiated and disparaging information regarding Adani Enterprises.

The recent Delhi court's gag order prohibiting journalists Paranjoy Guha Thakurta, Ravi Nair, Abir Dasgupta, Ayaskant Das, and Ayush Joshi from publishing any disparaging material on businessman Gautam Adani's Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL) has been contested by the journalists.

Senior Civil Judge Anuj Kumar Singh of the Rohini Court ordered the removal of the defamatory content against AEL in an order issued on September 6. He also instructed journalists to abstain from posting unsubstantiated and disparaging information about the company.

The journalists have already appealed the civil court order twice, each time to the district court.

Thakurta submitted one appeal, while Ravi Nair, Abir Dasgupta, Ayaskant Das, and Ayush Joshi filed the other appeal jointly.

Some claim that their news stories exclusively discuss Gautam Adani or the Adani Group, omitting any mention of AEL.

"It is argued that a cursory examination of the excerpts of the claimed defamatory articles that have been reprinted makes it abundantly evident that the Plaintiff has not been identified, mentioned, or even mentioned in any way.  According to the petition, "the references are limited solely to Mr. Gautam Adani or the Adani Group in each and every contested publication."

In his appeal, Thakurta claimed that the court issued an overly general and comprehensive restraining order without identifying the specific content that was deemed defamatory.

Adani Enterprises had claimed in the civil judge's defamation complaint that some journalists, activists, and organizations had harmed its reputation and cost its stakeholders billions of dollars by severely harming its image, brand equity, and credibility of India's national brand.

These journalists and activists, according to Adani Enterprises, have "aligned with anti-India interests and have been continuously targeting Adani Enterprises' infrastructure and energy projects which are critical to India's infrastructure and energy security and have disrupted these projects with ulterior motives."

Citing articles on paranjoy.in, adaniwatch.org, and adanifiles.com.au, AEL claimed that these websites have consistently posted disparaging information about the Adani Group, the company, and its founder and chairman, Gautam Adani.

The civil court determined that AEL had presented a prima facie case for the issuance of an interim injunction after reviewing the matter.

The journalists then went to the district court as a result.

Advocates Apar Gupta, Indumugi C, and Naman Kumar filed the appeal on Thakurta's behalf.

Through attorney Nakul Gandhi, NG Law Chambers filed the appeal on behalf of Ravi Nair, Abir Dasgupta, Ayaskant Das, and Ayush Joshi.
