The Supreme Court will hear the case of the stray dogs tomorrow after referring it to a fresh three-judge panel.

Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and NV Anjaria will make up the bench.

The stray dog issue will be heard by a new three-judge Supreme Court bench led by Justice Vikram Nath.

NV Anjaria and Justice Sandeep Mehta will also be on the bench.

A bench consisting of Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan had previously heard the case, which was titled In Re: "City Hounded by Strays, Kids Pay Price."

Additionally, this Bench issued a comprehensive order on August 11 that mandated the evacuation of all stray dogs from Delhi, NOIDA, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad's streets and public areas, their transfer to shelters, and a total ban on their return.

According to the Bench, the exercise ought to be prioritized and executed without compromising.

Crucially, the Justice Pardiwala Bench stated on Monday that the Court will take severe measures, including contempt of court, against any person or group that obstructs the procedure.

The order was issued in a suo motu lawsuit that it started because of several rabies cases and stray dog bite deaths.

Animal rights advocates protested the decree in large numbers, with many taking to the streets.

Given this, a lawyer brought up the subject this morning, telling the court that an appeal against a Delhi High Court ruling on stray dogs is currently pending.

The attorney further argued that orders on the matter have been issued by various Supreme Court benches.  These include the bench of Justices Pardiwala and Mahadevan in the current suo motu proceedings, as well as the bench of Justices JK Maheshwari and Sanjay Karol in one case.

The Court was made aware of the overlapping nature of these issues and the potential for divergent approaches.

She urged the CJI to list the case so the Court can determine whether to settle the discrepancy, perhaps by referring it to a larger bench, after pointing out these two contradicting coordination bench orders.
