Tokyo hosted the India-Japan Higher Education Forum to launch the JGU Sustainable Development Report 2025.

Prominent academic leaders, researchers, and policymakers from top universities in Japan and India came together for the occasion.

The Sustainable Development Report 2025 (SDR 2025) of OP Jindal Global University (JGU) was recently presented in Tokyo at the 2nd India-Japan Higher Education Forum: "Universities of the Future: Promoting Democracy, Dialogue, and Development in Asia and Beyond.

Toshiko Abe, the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology for the Government of Japan, graced the occasion and formally introduced the SDR 2025.

Toshiko Abe, a senior member of the Liberal Democratic Party, emphasized the value of international education in tackling global issues.

"A deep, cross-border collaboration between India and Japan is based on respect for one another's cultures, democratic values, and shared goals of peace and prosperity. Our universities have a vital role to play in this age of complicated global issues. We create the groundwork for a better society by enabling a new generation of internationally aware students—people who can think creatively, act morally, and lead sustainably. Indian students are invited to explore Japan's thriving academic environment, which is full of innovation and heritage. India and Japan may together develop knowledge ecosystems that benefit Asia and influence global solutions by conducting cooperative research, exchanging students, and forming institutional relationships. "This Forum embodies the spirit of education, which is the bridge to our shared future," he stated.

Prominent academic leaders, researchers, and officials from top universities in both nations came together for the occasion. It reinforced how important academic collaborations between Japan and India are to advancing inclusive, forward-thinking higher education.

Prof. (Dr.) C Raj Kumar, the founding vice-chancellor of JGU, considered the importance of the event,

A significant turning point in the developing collaboration between India and Japan in higher education has been reached with the Tokyo unveiling of JGU's Sustainable Development Report 2025. This partnership is a celebration of common democratic principles, intellectual prowess, and a shared dedication to sustainability rather than only being an academic exchange. At JGU, we think that academic institutions need to transcend conventional limits and take a transformational approach to addressing global issues. Our SDR 2025 demonstrates how organizations may match the Sustainable Development Goals with research, education, policy, and community involvement. This Forum emphasizes how international academic diplomacy may create societies that are resilient, inclusive, and just as we rethink the role of universities in the twenty-first century. "This report's release in Tokyo represents our conviction that education encompasses not only knowledge but also purpose, accountability, and global citizenship," he said.

The Sustainable Development Report 2025 encapsulates JGU's all-encompassing institutional dedication to sustainability through operations, research, teaching, and community involvement that is completely in line with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN. The report focuses on JGU's global partnerships, quantifiable results, and strategic initiatives in the fight for sustainability in higher education.

Over time, the university has gained more international reputation. Out of more than 2,500 universities, JGU soared to the top of the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025, rising from the 801–1000 band in 2024 to the 401–600 band worldwide. JGU got a noteworthy global ranking of 88 for SDG 12-Responsible Production and Consumption.

Prof. Padmanabha Ramanujam, the report's primary author and dean of JGU's Office of Academic Governance, highlighted the institutional change that is taking place.

This report is the result of years of cooperation between the academic and administrative departments of our university to make sustainability a central component of JGU's purpose. Our journey has been driven by a clear vision: to establish an organization that embodies the SDGs in its research, curriculum, everyday operations, and student life, rather than merely teaching them. Significantly rising in the global Impact Rankings is a testament to our strategic dedication and unwavering quest for quantifiable advancement. More significantly, though, it represents a change in our university's culture toward one that is inclusive, interdisciplinary, evidence-based, and forward-looking. The SDR 2025 is a symbol of both where we are now and where we hope to be in the future: a model university that can spearhead systemic change for a sustainable planet. We are calling on universities around the world to work together to create a fair, just, and environmentally friendly future for everybody," he stated.

The Sustainable Development Report 2025 from JGU offers a daring vision for the contribution of academics to solving the most important issues facing the globe.

The significance of India-Japan educational diplomacy in forming the universities—and the world—of the future is highlighted by this historic moment, which was released in the center of Tokyo.

Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, a member of parliament and a senior advocate at the Supreme Court of India, was the honored guest and gave a special speech to mark the event.

Universities are no longer merely passive stores of information in the complicated world of today. They must transform into democratic havens, intellectual laboratories, and catalysts for just growth. India and Japan, two of Asia's most dynamic and established democracies, have a unique chance to establish a new standard for international education that is based on principles, honesty, and purpose as they expand their academic involvement. This Forum has demonstrated how education diplomacy may have a revolutionary effect. It has also reaffirmed the necessity of rethinking our educational establishments as forces for sustainability, fairness, and human dignity. I applaud JGU for taking the lead in this area with bravery and transparency. Here in Tokyo, the publication of its Sustainable Development Report 2025 is a potent demonstration of academic unity on a global scale. It serves as a reminder that future colleges must not only teach students how to think, but also motivate them to take action for the benefit of society," he said.
