The High Court decided to give the case an urgent hearing today.
The Delhi High Court has been contacted by the Badminton Association of India (BAI) to have false information that several dozen judges took part in a government-sponsored badminton event in London earlier this month removed.
Today, Senior Advocate Apoorv Kurup brought up the issue with Judge Tejas Karia for an urgent listing.
According to Kurup, the widespread false information that judges supposedly took part in a badminton competition in London is spreading daily and damaging the sport's reputation.
The phony news was spreading, according to Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who claimed to have obtained an advance copy.
The court consented to list the plea after the lawyer resolved the petition's concerns by 2:30 PM.
According to recent viral social media posts, some 75 Indian judges, Union ministers, and Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant traveled to London at taxpayer expense to compete in a badminton competition.
The allegations raised concerns about public spending, judicial independence, and the ethics of judges and government officials attending a sporting event together when the public was being persuaded to adopt austerity measures.
However, a number of significant accusations were denied by the government's fact-checking division. Claims that Union ministers Kiren Rijiju and Arjun Ram Meghwal attended the event in London were untrue, according to PIB Fact Check, and the widely shared images were from a badminton competition that took place at Thyagaraj Stadium in New Delhi in November 2025 rather than London.
