In protest of the Collegium's recommendation to transfer four Karnataka High Court judges, the Advocates Association of Bengaluru decided to take an hour off from work on Tuesday.
After the Bar leaders told the Court that it had decided to take an hour off from work in protest, many benches stopped sessions.
Hearings have been halted for the time being in Courts 7, 8, and 21.
On April 21, the Supreme Court Collegium suggested that Justices Krishna Dixit, K Natarajan, Hemant Chandangoudar, and Sanjay Gowda be transferred.
It has been suggested that Justice Dixit be transferred to the High Court of Orissa, Justice Natarajan to the High Court of Kerala, Justice Chandangoudar to the High Court of Madras, and Justice Gowda to the High Court of Gujarat.
The decision was made "to infuse inclusivity and diversity at the level of High Courts and to strengthen the quality of administration of justice," according to a statement released by the Collegium on the Supreme Court website.
There is a lot of conflict at the Bar because of the transfer suggestion. In a previous letter to Chief Justice of India (CJI), Sanjiv Khanna, the presidents of the Advocates Associations of the Dharwad Bench of the Karnataka High Court and the Advocates Association, Bengaluru, opposed the action.
After that, the AAB decided to take an hour off from work.
