Judge Mahabir Singh Sindhu of the Punjab and Haryana High Court dies at the age of 59

Mahabir Singh Sindhu, a 59-year-old justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, died on Sunday.
According to sources, Justice Sindhu passed away at Gurugram's Medanta Hospital at around three in the morning after being ill for several months.
After practicing law for 25 years, Justice Sindhu was appointed to the Punjab and Haryana High Court in July 2017. At the time of his passing, he was the third most senior judge on
the High Court and was scheduled to retire in April 2029.The Hon'ble Mr. Justice Mahabir Singh Sindhu, Judge of this Court, departed for his heavenly home today, June 28, 2026, at 02.50 a.m., with deep sadness and regret. Cremation is scheduled for today at 5:00 p.m. in His Lordship's hometown of Masoodpur, Tehsil and District Hansi, Haryana, according to a message from the High Court.
He was born on April 4, 1967, into a family of farmers in Masudpur village in the Hisar district. He attended the Government High School in his hometown until Class X.
In 1992, he graduated with an LLB from Punjab University and joined the Punjab and Haryana Bar Council.
He practiced civil, criminal, constitutional, and service law throughout his career, mostly before the Punjab and Haryana High Court in Chandigarh.
He worked as Additional Central Government Standing Counsel starting in 1999 and represented a number of government agencies. He was named the Union Territory of Chandigarh's Additional Government Pleader in 2000.
Later, Justice Sindhu held the positions of Additional Advocate General in Punjab from September 2008 to December 2009, Deputy Advocate General in Haryana from 2004 to 2008, and Additional Advocate General in Haryana from December 2009. In order to return to private practice, he left the Advocate General's office in February 2013.
In July 2017, the Punjab and Haryana High Court appointed him as an Additional Judge. In December 2018, he became a permanent judge.
