Supreme Court's ruling, the DMK withdraws its appeal against CM Vijay and TVK.

After the Court stated that it was not inclined to meddle in political disputes that are best addressed outside of court, the plea was dropped.

In the Supreme Court case involving the Karur stampede during a 2025 Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) rally, which resulted in 41 fatalities and numerous injuries, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) withdrew its motion for impleadment on Tuesday.

In their appeal, the DMK asked for orders to prevent TVK ministers from discussing the investigation or providing welfare payments to the victims' families without taking the necessary precautions, citing worries that such exchanges would affect the current inquiry.
The DMK specifically pointed down remarks made by TVK minister Aadhav Arjuna that purportedly placed the responsibility on the DMK.

But today, a bench of Justices Alok Aradhe and KV Viswanathan questioned whether the Court ought to address such contentious political matters. How may a political adversary be impleaded before the Supreme Court? Forty-one persons have passed away. Is this a well-considered application? What does the sequitur mean? Just take a moment to reflect. The Court said, "Today, to turn this court into a political forum... instead of fighting your battles outside."

"You will be best advised not to press this application here," the Bench continued. This has consequences that you may not have considered.
The Bench also inquired about the DMK's desire to control the Chief Minister's trips to Karur. The DMK attorney stated, "There is a narrative being built by accused persons for the purpose of compensation... they are making statements in the press."The Bench said, "You want the Supreme Court to regulate the CM's visit?"

The plea might be dropped, according to DMK's attorney, but he asked the court to consider the remarks made by TVK employees. We'll take it back. However, we can bring it with the committee's notice. Senior Advocate Ranjit Kumar stated, "This statement may be recorded."
The Court then permitted the withdrawal of the impleadment application. In order to pursue any alternative remedy that may be available to the applicant, Mr. Ranjit Kumar wishes to withdraw this application. The Court declared, "We dismiss the application as withdrawn in accordance with the aforementioned terms."

The issue was the stampede that occurred in Karur on September 27, 2025, during a TVK political event. There were 142 injuries and 41 fatalities from the rush.
The probe was previously moved from the Tamil Nadu Police to the Central Bureau of probe (CBI) by the Supreme Court. Additionally, it had mandated that a three-person committee led by Justice Ajay Rastogi, a former Supreme Court judge, oversee the investigation.

The DMK recently submitted the now-retracted application to be included in the ongoing stampede proceedings through its organizing secretary, RS Bharathi.
Bharathi has requested that the Supreme Court prevent TVK ministers Aadhav Arjuna, Bussy Anand, CT Nirmal Kumar, and Tamil Nadu chief minister and TVK president C Joseph Vijay from publicly discussing the merits of the ongoing CBI inquiry.

Prior to the State government providing benefits, government directives, or compassionate appointments to the relatives of those killed or injured during the stampede, the plea also asked for protections.
The beneficiary families were material witnesses in the ongoing prosecution, according to the DMK, even though it had no objections to such social measures. The DMK expressed worries that they would be swayed and that this would cause the stampede investigation to go awry.

Additionally, the DMK expressed disapproval of remarks made regarding the Karur tragedy by current TVK Minister Aadhav Arjuna. A speech purportedly given by Arjuna on July 2 was mentioned. Arjuna allegedly stated that Karur was "a very important town" and that there was "a score to settle," according to the English version appended to the plea.

Such remarks were intended to give the impression that the DMK and its leadership were to blame for the tragedy, according to the plea.
Anuradha Arputham, a lawyer, submitted the DMK's application.
The TVK was represented by senior lawyers Neeraj Kishan Kaul, Menaka Guruswamy, and Shadan Farasat as well as advocates Pranjal Agarwal, Dixita Gohil, and Yash S. Vijay.
