The Supreme Court has received a public interest litigation (PIL) following the recent terror attack on Pahalgam visitors.
Advocate Vishal Tiwari's petition asks the Union Home Ministry and the States to take precautions to protect tourists visiting hill states and other isolated areas, as well as to station military personnel in areas where tourists congregate in large numbers.
In order to provide timely medical assistance in the event of an emergency, the petition has also asked for instructions to develop adequate medical facilities in tourist destinations, particularly in isolated highland and valley locations.
As stated in the plea,
Due to the high volume of visitors during the summer, the tourism industry is the primary driver of the economies of the majority of North Indian states. The sector's economy may be impacted and diminished by terrorist attacks. For the security of tourists, safety precautions become crucial. Despite being a sensitive area, it is becoming clear that there were no security measures in place during the Pahalgaon incident. Armed security of some kind will be present in these isolated locations where visitors congregate to take in the scenery and take in the tranquil surroundings. Only by taking such precautions can we shield tourists from terrorist assaults.
Additionally, the petitioner has asked for instructions to guarantee the Amarnath Yatra's safety and security in Kashmir.
