The Karnataka Advocate General's Office is seeking to hire research assistants and law clerks.



Description of the Job: 

The chosen Law Clerk-turned-Research Assistant will have the exceptional chance to work on a wide range of cases at the Office of the Advocate General, with an emphasis on research on issues that affect public policy. 
They will gain experience practicing law from a public institutional standpoint and receive mentoring from seasoned litigators. 
As needed, they will provide direct support to the State Public Prosecutors, Government Advocates, Learned Advocate General, Additional Advocates General, High Court Government Pleaders, or Public Prosecutors. 
Regular contacts with public servants and government representatives will also be a part of the job. 



Qualifications: 
Applicants in the following categories may apply to be chosen as law clerks: 

1. New law graduates in 2024 or those scheduled to graduate in 2025 who received a minimum score of 55% on the final LLB exam from colleges or                universities approved by the Bar Council of India. 
2. Candidates must be familiar with the fundamentals of using laptops and computers, as well as case law software. 
3. Candidates must be at least 21 years old and at least 30 years old on the application deadline period. 
4. Candidates need to exhibit a clear interest in public policy and litigation. 
5. Candidates who are proficient in reading and writing Kannada may be given preference by the committee. 
6. Students are recommended to apply if they have studied Kannada up until SSLC.

A. Candidates are asked to complete the Google form by visiting this link. 

B. Since applicants are only permitted to submit one application, please double-check the information before submitting it. (Note: We will not consider physical applications.) 

C. The following papers must be uploaded to the Google Form: 
 

  • A résumé that includes a photo and age information 
  • A current, optional sample of scholarly work that is no longer than 2000 words 
  • A certificate of matriculation [the 10th passing certificate (SSLC)] 
  • A combined, legally attested marksheet for every semester (or, if unavailable, transcripts for every semester to date). 

A copy of the provisional or final degree and certificate, if available, must be presented before joining. 
Letters of recommendation from the president of the bar association where they practice or the principals of the law schools where they obtained their LLB. 

Attorneys' Honoraria: 

As stipend honorarium for their work, each law clerk may receive a total of ₹25,000/-per month, or the amount that the government may occasionally set, subject to statutory deductions. 
Law clerks in the Office of the Advocate General for Karnataka will not be considered to be in regular employment and will not be eligible for any additional benefits. 


Interview Date: 

The date of the in-person interview will be announced on the Office of Advocate General's website and notice board. Eligible candidates will also get notification via email at the address they provided in their application. 

The deadline to submit an application is: 

On or before July 5, 2025, at 11.59 PM IST, applicants must submit their application and self-attested documents accompanied by a reference from the president of the bar association where they practice or the principal of the institution where they obtained their LLB. Applications received beyond that point won't be taken into consideration.
